The University now invites applications and nominations for: Senior Lecturer / Lecturer /Assistant Lecturer – English Language - The School of Humanities and Social Science (Ref# 2018/023/01) The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high end talents with global perspective, Chinese tradition and social responsibility. At present, the University has programmes in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science. Its long term goal is to recruit 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students. The University is featured with an international learning environment, a bilingual teaching pedagogy, a collegiate system, general education courses, multidisciplinary programmes and a student-centered educational philosophy. The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) has two important missions. First, HSS provides foundational education for all university students in multiple areas, including general education, English language competency, Chinese language competency, physical education and fitness, basic competency in instructional technology (IT) applications, etc. These areas lay the foundation for the comprehensive education that all CUHK-Shenzhen students receive. Beyond the foundational education that HSS provides to all students, HSS intends to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and will start a series of new and interdisciplinary programs, among which Chinese Culture is one. We welcomes high caliber faculty from around the world to join us and establish a top-tier School of Humanities and Social Science in China. Post Specification Applicants should have at least a Master's Degree in English Language/Applied Linguistics or a related field and at least 3 years of experience in teaching English to students at the tertiary level. Applicants with proven record of any of the following are highly encouraged to apply:
The appointee will be responsible for (a) teaching University Core English courses; (b) teaching free-elective courses; and (c) assisting in curriculum development and administrative assignments. The appointee is expected to commence work in the academic year of 2017-18. Salary and Fringe Benefits CUHK(SZ) provides all staff with a rewarding career. Salary will be competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK(SZ) and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labour laws applicable in the PRC. The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen [CUHK(SZ)] was founded through a Memorandum of Understanding between The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Shenzhen University and the Shenzhen Municipal Government. The new University is a research-orientated, forward-thinking, non-profit making University, which places emphasis on cross-disciplinary teaching and research. The establishment of CUHK(SZ) is an initiative to help nurture future generations of university graduates who are international in outlook, learned in the disciplines they follow, upright in their character, and committed to serving the needs of society.
CUHK(SZ) will draw upon CUHK’s traditions of academic excellence and no effort will be spared to ensure that the teaching quality at CUHK(SZ) is on a par with that of the CUHK, so that it will become a preferred research university located in Shenzhen, firmly rooted in China, and endowed with a global vision. Located in a picturesque site to the south of the Universiade Park in Longgang District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, the campus of CUHK(SZ) occupies an area of around 100 hectares (1 million square metres) with a buildable area of around 500,000 square metres. The green pastures, the rolling hills and the serene lake offer stunning views and a quiet learning environment. The initial phase (55,000 square metres) of campus construction was completed in March of 2014, whilst the phase 1 (300,000 square metres) construction is expected to be completed in 2016.
There are three schools in CUHK(SZ), namely the School of Management and Economics, the School of Science and Engineering, and the School of Humanities and Social Science. The Senate of CUHK is responsible for the assessment and approval of the academic programmes. CUHK(SZ) will first welcome 300 undergraduate students in fall 2014 in the School of Management and Economics. The School of Science and Engineering (SSE) will begin to admit undergraduate students in 2015. The University will also start to admit postgraduate students in the academic year of 2014 to 2015.
