Job Description
Middle School 7th-Grade History Position
Part-Time (.5 FTE)


Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for a Middle School History Teacher, starting with the 2012-13 school year (beginning in mid to late August, 2012).

Responsibilities:
The History Teacher, reporting to the Middle School History Department Head and the Middle School Division Director, will join a highly collaborative department that consists of five faculty members. Specific responsibilities for this position include:

• Teaching two 7th-grade American History sections of sixteen students each.
• Participating actively in the work of the department on curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment.
• Serving as a co-advisor for a group of eight 7th-grade students and participating actively as a member of the 7th grade-level team.
• Providing academic support for students outside of class time as needed.
• Attending History Department, grade-level team, and faculty meetings.
• Participating in the life of the school community including outdoor trips, field trips, and service learning activities in relation to one’s half-time FTE status. Part-time faculty consult with the division director for guidance regarding schedules, meeting requirements, and participation in school activities.

Requirements
Requirements:
The successful applicant will have at least a Bachelor’s degree in history; a Master’s degree in history, social studies, or a related field is preferred. Middle-school or early high-school teaching experience is essential (grades 5 to 9), as is a demonstrated understanding of and appreciation for young adolescents. The candidate must be able to work with students who vary in learning styles, and have experience instructing diverse populations of students. Computer (PC/Windows platform) proficiency is required. References should address the candidate's ability to instruct successfully a wide range of students and to work with other adults in a high functioning, collaborative, and innovative educational setting.
