Description The Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity (SCALE) in the School of Education, an affiliate of the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education was formed in 2010 to develop research, policy and practice strategies for addressing issues of educational quality and equality.
The Center seeks an Associate Director with knowledge of performance assessment and education research, coupled with demonstrated experience in managing and overseeing a wide range of educational projects and initiatives including grants management and financial oversight. The successful candidate will have a track record in managing and supervising high level faculty and staff that lead and support high stakes project work including the design and delivery of project management, tools to monitor project success, event organization, relationship management and communications as well as grant writing and management. Preference will be given to those candidates with expertise and experience in curriculum and instruction performance assessment for students (middle and second schools across the four core subject areas (ELA, math, science and history/social studies) and teacher portfolio assessment at the pre-service and/or in-service levels. Enthusiasm for, and experience working with and across research, policy, practice, community and funder groups is an advantage. A service oriented, positive attitude combined with the capacity to work effectively, independently, and as a strong team player is required. Excellent organizational skills, plus knowledge of financial and administrative processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
40% Manage and plan in collaboration with SCALEs faculty sponsor and executive director, the development, organization of all project deliverables, including administration, organization, project management, budgeting, grant development and preparation of responses to state or district level Requests for Proposals. Additionally, oversee all management activities for supporting professional development of educators and administrators including meetings, conferences, briefings, seminars, and institutes.
20%: Develop and contribute to the organization, oversight and operation of SCALEs day-to-day administrative activities, including supporting staff meetings, financial processes, operations and office functions.
20%: Coordinate the development, facilitation and sustainability of partner groups or networks involving academics, practitioners, policy makers, funders and other partners, including the development of collaborative research projects, publications, events and related activities to deepen educational practice, educational opportunity and equity for students and teachers.
10%: Implement processes and products to advance the profile, reach, and communication of SCALEs mission and activities, and for knowledge mobilization of evidence and ideas generated by and through SCOPEs network and activities.
10%: Contributing to applications for grants and income generation activities for SCALE.
The successful candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent terminal degree or skills and experience) with skills in teacher assessment, social science research, knowledge and relevant experience in teacher preparation and administrative experience in organization management. Preference will be given to those candidates with expertise in issues of performance assessment of teaching, teacher preparation, human capital development across a teachers career, educational equity and policy development.
3-5 years relevant experience required; 5-7 preferred.
This is a two-year fixed term position.
