Assistant Coach, Tennis
| Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Head Tennis Coach, the Assistant Tennis Coach provides support and assistance of the intercollegiate tennis program (men and women), but is not limited to the following aspects; preparation of training/practice sessions, pregame organization and scouting reports, team travel arrangements, recruiting, managing recruiting database or Front Rush Recruiting Program, assist with recruiting tours of the University, assist toward instruction/knowledge of the college tennis game, and professional communication in regards to the Coaching staff and individual players. |
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree plus two years experience competing and/or coaching at the collegiate level with collegiate level playing and/or coaching experience and a commitment to Division III philosophy and experience with NCAA or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowlege/Skills/Ability: Ability to objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability for intercollegiate athletics. Working knowledge of NCAA DIII tennis rules of and the ability to teach critical skills, regulations, and competitive strategies and training techniques. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of the University, the MAC and the NCAA. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College including, but not limited to, student- athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, athletic training staff, and athletic department staff. Ability to provide effective leadership to student athletes to encourage both successful academic development and competitive performance. Knowledge of Tennis.Ability to work a flexible schedule.Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel with team to scheduled events.
Essential Functions: In cooperation with the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach develops and maintains a system to identify potential recruits and to work closely with area high school and travel coaches to recruit quality student-athletes to Stevenson University;Works in conjunction with the Head Coach to encourage the development of psychological, social, and mental skills necessary for the student-athlete to be successful in the classroom, on the field, and in future endeavors;Assists with scheduling for practices and competition, interfacing with administrators and representatives from other schools. Monitors the conditioning and training of student-athletes working closely with Strength Coach and Athletic Training staff;Assist the Head Coach by informing captains and individual players of their responsibilities, duties, roles, etc.Works with the Head Coach in developing line-ups, games strategies, and individual workout and practice needs for various student-athletes;Serves as a role model for the student-athletes by exhibiting ethical and professional conduct;Participates in clinics, exhibitions, and camps, as approved;Represents the Department at professional, civic, charitable, and alumni events, as requested;Represents Stevenson University at various local events, throughout the community;Cooperates with Stevenson University athletic personnel for efficient utilization of shared facilities;Assists with fundraising opportunities and budget preparations;Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Head Coach
