As part of a major new hiring initiative across multiple fields, the Watson Institute for International Studies and the Department of Political Science at Brown University invite applications for faculty positions in the field of international security to begin July 2014. We hope to hire multiple faculty through this search. We are seeking applicants whose research focuses on various aspects of international security, including but not limited to the intersection of environmental challenges (e.g., climate change and water scarcity) and security, and/or economic under-development and security, and/or nuclear proliferation in Asia and the Middle East. Candidates at all ranks are welcome to apply. The successful senior candidate must have an outstanding record of national and international scholarly achievement, a proven record of successful research funding, and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising. The successful junior candidate must be engaged in a research program with the potential to influence his/her field and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising. The new faculty member will hold a joint appointment in both the Watson Institute and the Department of Political Science. Junior candidates must have completed the PhD by the time of appointment. Review of applications will begin September 20, 2013, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Application Instructions All candidates should submit: 1) a cover letter describing research completed and planned, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) a short writing sample, and 4) a teaching statement. Senior candidates should include the names of five references who will be contacted at the appropriate time by the search committee. Senior candidates should submit their list of referees using the "additional documents" field. Junior candidates should have three letters of reference and their official graduate transcript sent at the time of the application.
