As part of a major new hiring initiative across multiple fields, the Watson Institute for International Studies and the Department of Political Science at Brown University invite applications for a faculty position in the fields of comparative politics or international relations with a specialization in governance to begin July 2014. We are seeking applicants whose research focuses on various aspects of governance, including but not limited to efforts to expand the regulatory capacity and institutional efficacy of individual nation-states and/or new forms of global governance involving governments, private firms and non-governmental organizations that seek to address global issues (e.g., climate change, labor standards, etc.) that can not be tackled by any single nation-state.
Candidates at all ranks are welcome. The successful senior candidate must have an outstanding record of national and international scholarly achievement, a proven record of successful research funding, and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising. The successful junior candidate must be engaged in a research program with the potential to influence his/her field and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising. The new faculty member will hold a joint appointment in both the Watson Institute and the Department of Political Science. Junior candidates must have completed the PhD by the time of appointment. Review of applications will begin September 20, 2013, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
All candidates should submit: 1) a cover letter describing research completed and planned, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) a short writing sample, and 4) a teaching statement.
Senior candidates should include the names of five references who will be contacted at the appropriate time by the search committee. Senior candidates should submit their list of referees using the "additional documents" field.
Junior candidates should have three letters of reference and their official graduate transcript uploaded to Interfolio at the time of the application. The confidential recommendation letters should be uploaded to Interfolio by the referee.
