Summary Description: The Department of History at Columbia University in the City of New York seeks a distinguished scholar of U.S. 19th-century history, subfield open. Candidates must have an eminent record in publications, teaching and research. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of tenured associate or tenured full professor in the Department of History, beginning July 1, 2014. Review of applications will begin 15 November and will continue until the position is filled.


Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. and record of excellence in scholarship and teaching required of all candidates. Candidates for tenured full professor should be widely recognized for their distinction and professional accomplishment. Candidates for tenured associate professor should possess a demonstrated record of professional achievement and show great promise of attaining distinction.

Preferred Qualifications:

As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Council of Ivy Group Presidents (Ivy League), it is imperative that members of the Columbia University community, in all matters related to the intercollegiate athletics program, exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Conference, University, and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education rules and regulations.
