| Summary Description: The Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation is seeking candidates for an Assistant, Associate, or (full) Professor in the Planning Sector of the Historic Preservation Program to begin July 1, 2014. A Ph.D in Urban Planning or an allied field is required. Candidates will also have a Master of Science in Historic Preservation or demonstrate substantial experience with preservation. They will show clear evidence of expertise and have strong leadership and communication skills. They must have demonstrated capacity for original work and show promise of significant continuing contributions. Senior positions required substantial teaching, research, and/or professional experience. (below is the full text of our published announcement)Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) invites applications for a full-time tenure track position (open rank) in Historic Preservation with a specialization in preservation planning. The Historic Preservation Program prepares leaders to address the great challenges of protecting the world's architectural, cultural, and historical heritage in the face of profound change. The multi-disciplinary program has set the standard in the dynamic field of historic preservation and heritage conservation since James Marston Fitch founded it in 1964 as the first such program in the United States.The GSAPP seeks candidates with a background in both preservation and planning, with a record of critical scholarship and a global purview. Responsibilities will include teaching, scholarship, and administration. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Urban Planning or an allied field along with a Master of Science in Historic Preservation or have substantial experience with preservation. Candidates may specialize in any area of preservation planning, but must also demonstrate a record of critical scholarship and an innovative approach to the field. Specialization areas might include but are not restricted to: preservation planning in relation to sustainability, social equity, or economics; U.S. preservation planning; international preservation planning theory or practice; institutional critique; etc. The GSAPP is a school dedicated to designing and understanding the local and global built environment. The school houses programs in Architecture, Planning, Preservation, Real Estate Development, Urban Design, Curatorial Studies, and doctoral programs in Architecture and Planning. Preferred Qualifications: GSAPP seeks faculty who can innovate their disciplines and can create an environment where students can not only be educated in current and past ideas and methods, but can also explore and test new ideas. Therefore, preference will generally be given to candidates who are able to teach and/or conduct research in both traditional fields and in an emergent specialization.
