We seek creative, collaborative faculty dedicated to excellent teaching and scholarly activity in the field of teaching and scholarly activity in the field of teaching American Sign Language.
The ASL & Interpreting department of St. Catherine University recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, honoring its impressive history, contributions and continued commitment to quality interpreter and ASL education. The department includes five full-time and ten adjunct faculty, two lab assistants and a Program Coordinator/Interpreter. SCU has been awarded funding from the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) since 1999 to serve as a regional center for interpreter education and is currently one of five regional programs to be part of the NCIEC (National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers). St. Kate’s has a national reputation in the area of healthcare interpreting and is known for its innovative programming and faculty research and scholarly work in linguistics, ethics and decision making, Deaf Interpreting, and enhanced ASL and interpreting teaching practices. St. Kate’s values and enjoys partnerships with vibrant Deaf and interpreting communities, where activism and community involvement is highly valued. Minnesota is recognized as a frequent contributor, through involvement and leadership, to national and local organizations such as the National Association of the Deaf, Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, the American Sign Language Teachers Association, the Conference of Interpreter Trainers, and many more. We are a community of professionals – Deaf and hearing – always seeking to do better and to be more effective in our shared pursuit of excellence.
Responsibilities: Teach six undergraduate ASL courses per year; advise students; curriculum revision for courses taught; mentoring of new ASL faculty; ASL placement interviews, research and department/university service.
|Qualifications: MA required, Ph.D. preferred (ABD with proposal defense complete will be considered) in ASL Studies, Deaf Studies, Curriculum and Instruction, Linguistics, Education or related fields. ASLTA (or CDI) certification preferred. Teaching experience is required. Experience in assessment, distance learning, and teaching experience with adult learners preferred. |
