College for Creative Studies (CCS) is seeking a Chair of Transportation Design, Undergraduate Studies Division. Reporting to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, the Chair is responsible for the overall management of the undergraduate department of Transportation Design at CCS, and for preserving and enhancing its position as a global leader in transportation design education. The Chair ensures that the program reflects a thorough understanding of current trends in the field and sets out a vision for responding to future scenarios of mobility design in a global context. In addition, the Chair serves as a key representative to the transportation industries, the international design community, peer academic institutions, donors, prospective students, the media, and other constituents.
The Chair oversees all aspects of undergraduate education in Automotive Exterior, Automotive Interior, and Transportation Design, including aeronautic, marine, ground, and emerging mobility systems. The Chair additionally oversees the Professional Automotive Modeling (PAM) Certificate Program. The Chair is responsible for the development and oversight of curriculum and student outcomes, as well as the department’s faculty, staff, and budget. The Chair also teaches one class each semester.
The Chair works in collaboration with the Provost, the Deans of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, and the Chair of MFA Transportation Design to develop and disseminate appropriate pedagogical methods, learning objectives, and coursework to ensure the education of designers who are positioned to succeed at the highest levels of global transportation design.
Transportation Design at CCS is widely recognized to be one of the world’s leading programs with a special expertise in automotive design. The College is seeking a visionary, accomplished professional to provide the creativity and leadership necessary to maintain and enhance the program’s recognized stature.
The position requires a motivated and energetic leader who is well known and respected by the international transportation design community. A major component of the role is promoting the CCS program to the industry internationally and negotiating industry sponsored projects in collaboration with the College’s Institutional Advancement staff. The Chair additionally helps place students and maintains very close relationships with the profession overall.
