The Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness is seeking a Program Manager to take responsibility for a global educational initiative involving Professor Michael Porter's research on competiveness, economic development and the role of business and society, as outlined in his 2011 Harvard Business Review article, Creating Share Value (CSV). The initiative is centered around Prof. Porter's, Microeconomics of Competitiveness (MOC) curriculum, which encompasses his research on the following frameworks: Drivers of Competitiveness, the Diamond Model, Clusters and Creating Shared Value. The curriculum is taught at HBS and over 100 affiliate universities around the world, where local faculty use case studies, supporting materials, and training provided by HBS. The Institute encourages and supports affiliated universities in preparing teaching material, forming research institutes, and taking an active role in competitiveness policy in their countries.
The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing all MOC Affiliates, ensuring that they are in compliance with the terms and conditions of membership within the MOC Network. Serves as the liaison between the Institute and Harvard's Office of General Council, Harvard Business Publishing, and the finance office to ensure that all members of the Affiliate Network act in accordance with university policies. Is solely responsible for the planning, preparation, and delivery of the local course offerings: a week-long intensive course; multi-day Executive Education courses; and a three-day MOC Faculty Workshop held every December for affiliate faculty from around the world.
The Program Manager will report directly to Prof. Porter and the Institute's Administrative Director, and will work closely with a Research Associate and two part-time faculty members on research and other projects related to Prof. Porter's competitiveness agenda. Porter , Bishop William Lawrence University Professor, studies competition and its implications for company strategy; the competitiveness of nations, regions and cities; and solutions to social problems. Based at Harvard Business School , the Institute is dedicated to extending the research pioneered by Professor Porter and disseminating it to scholars and practitioners on a global basis.

BA/BS in economics, management, or related discipline (advanced degree strongly preferred but not required), 5+ years of strong program delivery and support, with experience developing and managing relationships with diverse external constituencies.
Proven project management, operational, and marketing skills are essential.
Proven communication and organizational skills, initiative, flexibility, and attention to detail.
Must have extremely high standards in terms of quality of work and ability to work with shifting priorities and under tight deadlines. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to work both independently and as a team member.
Interest in and knowledge of economic development, multicultural experiences, some language skills, and prior experience with university administration would be helpful.
The willingness to learn and grow in the position is essential. Prior experience and facility with web-based applications using SharePoint is highly desirable. Proficiency with 2010 Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) Web Applications such as SharePoint, and willingness to learn new programs.
