| ||Departmental Overview |
| ||EECS is a large, top-tier department with nearly 2000 undergraduates and more than 500 graduate students. This position acts as a primary point of contact for faculty, teaching staff and students for EECS Department coursework: developing, maintaining and using systems that facilitate UC Berkeley's teaching mission. This position communicates with department, college, and campus staff to research and resolve issues related to academic policies. It provides expert service and advice to faculty and staff in the fields of copying, scanning, and documentation. The position coordinates the assignment of readers to computer science courses each semester. With the other Instructional assistants coordinates the tasks of up to three student assistants. |
This position requires a very high level of organizational, time management, and tracking skill while also requiring an extensive knowledge of computer software and hardware, campus policies and procedures.
| ||Responsibilities |
| ||40% CS Instructional copying and course: |
**Copies course notes, quizzes, midterms and finals, checking for copy quality, and provides accurate, timely service and secure delivery.
Provides specialist repro-graphic and document handling services to teaching staff (e.g., scanning and binding of course questionnaires, uploading of course materials to bSpace, printing certificates for class awards).
May need to work overtime (nights/weekends) to provide 24 hour turnaround for exam scanning and occasionally to meet the demands of last minute instructional support requests.
Coordinates CS Homework parties for large groups of students to work on homework in a single space simultaneously. Responsible for set-up and clean-up.
Helps proctor midterms and final exams for students in the Disabled Students Program.
25% Coordination of CS Reader Assignments:
**Calculates reader hours available to CS courses each semester, based on current enrollments and unit values, and works with instructors to find suitable candidates for open positions. Inputs information about individuals selected into ACG database for employment by HR staff.
10% XRG-VIF and Faculty Research Gifts Data Management/ Handles Incoming Visiting Scholars and Postdocs.
10% Academic HR Support:
**Assists the CS Academic Personnel Analyst with various academic personnel matters, such as selecting and typing up representative HKN comments from CS faculty evaluations for merit and promotion cases.
10% Special Projects as Needed. Supports Instructional Support/Special Projects Manager and others, as needed.
5% CS e-grades:
**Ensures that all CS faculty turn in grades to the e-grades system in a timely manner. Assists CS faculty members with processes such as completing "Incompletes" and changing grades. In consultation with supervisor, assists department members in obtaining access to e-grades when needed for reports, nominations, etc.
