Assumes responsibility for safety issues including:
Training the TA's in safety procedures
Teaching students about safety equipment
Ensuring safety rules are obeyed
Develops new experiments and writes procedures.
Serves on academic committees
Writes grants to support the laboratories
Oversees the preparation and distribution of materials and equipment for each experiment.
Prepares and maintains laboratory inventory
Ensures that the instruments are operational
Training the TA's in proper use of instruments
Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations
Requires a Masterâs degree or foreign equivalent in chemistry, biochemistry or a related field
Three years of experience as a laboratory instructor/manager or a related occupation
Experience with college/university chemistry laboratory teaching and management
Experience with OSHA standards, rules and regulations
Experience with hazardous waste management
Experience with educational computer systems such as Banner, Blackboard, and MOODLE
Experience with software used to gather and analyze data for chemistry experiments such as Logger Pro and PASCO
Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
