The Anthropology Department at Skidmore College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in cultural anthropology with expertise in East or Southeast Asia. The position is at the Assistant Professor level and begins September 2015. We seek a broadly trained cultural anthropologist with fieldwork experience on contemporary issues in East or Southeast Asia and areas of expertise that complement existing courses. Topics of research might include, but are not limited to, applied anthropology, development, economics, environment, politics, transnationalism, or violence and conflict. The position requires teaching 5 courses per year, including an introduction to cultural anthropology as well as upper-level geographic and topical courses. Candidates are also expected to contribute to Skidmore’s First-Year Experience and Asian Studies, and it is desirable that candidates have an interest in contributing to other interdisciplinary programs, such as Environmental Studies, Gender Studies, or International Affairs. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, active scholarship and fieldwork, and a strong commitment to undergraduate education at a liberal arts college. We are particularly open to candidates from under-represented groups and to candidates who have experience with diverse populations and are able to contribute to the diversity and excellence of Skidmore's academic community.
