| ||Responsibilities |
| ||BAM/PFA houses collections of over 16,000 films and videotapes and over 18,000 artworks, as well as extensive film-related documentation. BAM/PFA is engaged in a grant-supported project to catalog and digitize materials from its Conceptual Art Study Center collection. The purpose of this position is to create catalog records describing artworks and ephemera from the CASC collection and rehouse and prepare objects for digital imaging to improve collection organization, access, and preservation. |
-Uses subject knowledge in art history to create or enhance catalog records for BAM/PFA artworks and archival documents.
-Searches art collection database to determine if record exists, and modifies and enhances as needed.
-Creates original record according to BAM/PFA practices and procedures. Records artist, artist dates, nationality, title, date of work, medium, insurance value (if known), and credit line.
-Measures artwork and notes inscriptions. Assigns accession numbers and marks artworks according to archival best practices. Conducts research and makes additional notes on context of work as appropriate.
-Assesses general condition of artwork; notes problems and conservation needs, recommends special housing or mounting as appropriate.
-Helps analyze and reorganize storage systems. Rehouses ephemera and small works on paper in archival sleeves as needed.
-Coordinates project workflow with Digital Imaging Technician and Photographer. Works with Digital Media team to implement or automate database functions such as global updates and controlled vocabulary lists.
-Creates logs of video, film, and audio masters.
-Performs quality control checking of preserved audio and video recordings as needed.
-Investigates conversion of transcripts from obsolete media such as floppy discs.
| ||Required Qualifications |
| ||-Subject-matter expertise in art history, particularly conceptual art |
-Art cataloging experience
-Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
-Excellent computer skills; proficiency with applications including FileMaker Pro and MS Word; and the ability to learn new applications quickly
-Ability to work in a team to achieve shared goals

| ||The hourly salary range for this position is $20.64-$24.20. |
