Duties and responsibilities include teaching a full range of community college psychology courses (General Psychology, Honors General Psychology, Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Human Sexuality, Lifespan Development, and Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology) depending on qualifications may be required to teach Sociology courses (Introduction to Sociology); developing curriculum and establishing new classes and programs communicating effectively with students and staff participating in the program review process attending and participating in appropriate professional meetings and workshops participating in department, division, college and district committees maintaining currency in the discipline working with community and campus organizations teaching in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evenings, weekends, or off campus identifying and recommending potential adjunct faculty to teach classes assisting in evaluating adjunct instructors participating in the accreditation process conducting and analyzing Student Learning Outcomes assessments and using the results to improve teaching and learning perform related duties as assigned; and otherwise fulfilling all the duties and responsibilities of instructional staff as required by Administrative Regulation 7122. Assignment may require teaching at other college sites.
Include an earned masters degree in psychology OR bachelors degree in psychology AND a masters degree in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work OR a valid California Community College Credential OR the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency) AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Include a bachelors or masters degree in sociology; postsecondary teaching experience experience teaching large group formats (75 or more students) experience in related nonteaching work demonstrated teaching ability potential contribution to institutional vitality and growth knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals and experience with web-based online learning and classroom technology including webcasting, podcasting, and personal response systems.
Conditions of Employment:
177 duty days.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary is $54,029 $81,342 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).
