School/Unit: College of Humanities and Sciences
Purpose of Position:
The Department of Sociology in the College of Humanities and Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking applications for one non-tenure track term faculty position to begin August 2017. We are seeking candidates specializing in teaching contemporary racialization and social movements.
Teaching responsibilities will include courses at the undergraduate level in their area of specialization, along with providing support to the program’s core curriculum and general education requirements. This position also includes an expectation of service to the Department.
Required qualifications include a PhD in Sociology, or ABD (all but dissertation) with degree in hand by August 2017.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU, is required.
Preferred qualifications include experience with student and community engagement, and the equivalent of one year of full-time sociological teaching experience at the university level. Interest in teaching sociological theory and openness to teaching in the online digital sociology master's program are also preferred.
