Greater West Town Community Development Project (GWTP) was founded in 1988. It is a not-for-profit community-based economic development initiative dedicated to expanding educational and economic opportunity for Chicago’s diverse, low-income community residents in Humboldt Park, East and West Garfield Park, Austin, and North Lawndale.
GWTP is currently seeking an Executive Director that will lead the agency through its next phase of growth and will continue to position GWTP externally as a leader in workforce development, educational and youth development services. The Executive Director will communicate the agency’s vision internally and externally and will ensure that all agency administrative and programmatic functions meet the highest levels of non-profit services performance. This individual will be an energetic, entrepreneurial and mission-driven professional with the ability to garner broad support with diverse stakeholder groups and will continue to elevate GWTP’s profile among public and private funding groups. The ability to relate to a wide variety of constituents including elected officials, municipal, state and federal bureaucracies, businesses, civic groups, donors, neighbors and regulators and advocates is essential. The Executive Director will continue to conceptualize, develop and nurture partnerships and collaborations with other organizations and the business community. Given the unique and diverse revenue streams at the organization, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of negotiating and managing large, complex, agreements in both the public and private sectors. Finally, the Executive Director will be a tireless advocate for GWTP’s mission and impact and will inspire others to support successful outcomes.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DUTIES
- Ensures the pursuit and achievement of the agency’s mission to alleviate poverty through expanded educational and employment opportunity. The Executive Director is primarily responsible for program design and program evaluation, and the development of policy initiatives and advocacy efforts
- Directs and is primarily responsible for fundraising and administration of approximately $3.5 million annually in public and private funding for GWTP’s diverse array of workforce development and youth development grants and contracts. Public funding includes federal, state, and local grants and contracts
- Directly supervises key Management Team members (the Directors of GWTP’s Youth Development and West Town Academy HS, Adult Employment, and Vocational Training units)
- Ensures the development and implementation of effective human resource and personnel policies for the agency’s 45+ employees
- Serves on the Board of Directors and works with fellow Board members to ensure sound fiscal management of the agency’s resources; and to develop and implement the agency’s short-term and long-range goals, and community and local employer engagement initiatives
- Serves as the agency’s primary liaison and spokesperson with sister workforce development agencies, partner government agencies, and pubic officials
- Provides leadership and vision for future development of GWTP
