Middle School Humanities Teacher
The Berkeley Carroll School
Details
Salary:
Type:
Full Time - Faculty
The Berkeley Carroll Middle School seeks an inspirational and passionate Humanities teacher for a full-time position beginning in the autumn of 2019. Intelligence, stamina, humor and an abiding interest in the special qualities of middle schoolers--as well as direct teaching experience with this age group--are essential. The BCS middle school values collegiality, an ability to listen and a commitment to a supportive community that strives to honor diversity in every aspect. Our middle school covers grades five through eight. We are also open to candidates who would consider the added responsibility of serving as Humanities Chair. Teaching responsibilities are two sections of double periods and serving as an advisor. The Humanities program, although heavily reliant on a framework of history and literature, draws widely from religion, philosophy, social science, arts, geography and ethics to provide context and meaning. At each grade level the curriculum fosters the growth of skill building ranging from grammar, spelling and vocabulary to the ability to think analytically and acutely about challenging issues. Berkeley Carroll is committed to an inclusive program and a diverse faculty and student body. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to and experience with diversity, equity or inclusion work are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates should send a resume, cover letter, references and teaching statement to mshumanities@berkeleycarroll.org. No phone calls please.
