General Summary of Position: The Economics Department at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for two full-time, non-tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to start in the Fall of 2020. Primary responsibilities are to provide high-quality teaching and service to the Department. This position is renewable annually, potentially leading to an appointment of Associate Teaching Professor following five consecutive years of excellent performance evaluations. The teaching load will be three courses per semester. Responsibilities will consist of teaching existing courses at the undergraduate level, including principles of microeconomics, principles of macroeconomics, and statistics. However, preferences will be given to applicants who show potential to develop new field courses. The successful candidates will also be involved in advising undergraduate students, service and outreach activities, and actively participating in continuing efforts to improve the department’s educational mission at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The University of Massachusetts Lowell is a highly ranked research university, located about 25 miles northwest of Boston. The Economics Department is part of the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (FAHSS). The Department currently has 9 full-time faculty—5 tenured professors, 3 untenured professors, and 1 associate teaching professor. The number of our majors has increased by more than 30% over the last 3 years to around 130 this academic year.
