Ph.D. in a Humanities or Social Science field of study from an accredited institution with a focus on Queer of Color Critique Studies and Chicana/o/x communities. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to, queer social movements, queer theory, queer migrations/diasporas, transgender studies, queer legal studies, women of color feminisms, disability studies, queer cultural studies, queer oral history, joteria studies, and transnational sexuality. The successful candidate must be able to teach introductory-level survey courses in Chicana and Chicano Studies, as well as upper division courses in area of expertise, and M.A. graduate-level seminars.
At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to work in the United States.
The University especially seeks individuals who will contribute both to their chosen disciplines and to the University’s commitment to student success. All faculty are expected to serve on departmental and/or university committees, contribute to teaching effectiveness, and demonstrate successful research, publication and other scholarly/professional/creative activities in their field of specialization. The standard teaching load is 12 units (4 courses per semester). However, the teaching load for the first two years is reduced by 3 units per semester to a 3/3 load. Competitive reassigned time is available for research and other service at the department, college, or university level. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses on the Chicana/o/x experience related to disciplinary expertise. In addition to areas of expertise, applicants will be expected to teach in one or more of the general education courses offered by the department including critical thinking, information competencies, lifelong learning, oral communication, writing composition, and/or other relevant areas. The new hire will be expected to develop new courses as well as identify resources to encourage integration and inclusion of LGBTQ+ issues across existing courses in culture, history, and politics.
