The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University seeks an energetic and innovative faculty member to serve as the Henry E. Frye Distinguished Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice. The faculty member in this distinguished role will also teach classes in the Department of History and Political Science. The position is a 9-month, non tenure track appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The Distinguished Professorship reports to the Chairperson of the Department of Criminal Justice.
The department is seeking an accomplished and notable candidate with a distinguished record of professional experience, scholarly research, strong commitment to teaching, and evidence of an ability to develop programs of excellence that will enhance the professional and ethical capabilities of students/leaders.
The successful candidate will produce scholarly publications, teach criminal justice, history and political science and related courses, serve as a mentor to junior faculty and students and exemplify the initiative, integrity, and service befitting the honored recognition associated with this endowed appointment. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, fundraising, grant writing, and service to the Department, College and University as needed and determined by the Department Chairperson and CAHSS Dean.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Department of Criminal Justice has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 450 majors. The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and has plans to expand its curriculum offerings to include a cybersecurity concentration as well as graduate program. The unit is one of six departments within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, which also houses the Departments of English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 130 faculty members.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in criminal justice or related discipline with significant teaching/research/administrative experience, suitable for appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor, preferably in a higher-education environment. Candidates also must have a distinguished record of scholarly and professional accomplishments, as well as integration of learning, discovery and engagement.
Prior academic experience in a higher education setting, with experience in government, corporate/community interactions, extramural fundraising, and related administrative capability is preferred. Minimum of 7 years of demonstrated excellence in teaching, research and service activities, consistent with eligibility for appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor.
