The Center for African American Studies (CAAS) and the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice (CRCJ) invite applications for a joint full-time, non-tenure track appointment as Assistant Professor of Instruction.
We seek a dynamic and engaging scholar with strong teaching skills and an ability to inspire students in a variety of courses offered in both programs. Candidates should have a broad knowledge of past and present African American experiences with the criminal justice system, as well as an ability to instruct students on the history, culture, life, and contributions of people of African descent. The typical course load is four classes per long semester.
In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will provide meaningful service to the university, most notably by leading CAAS' Student Development Initiatives. The new hire will also help plan major events and is expected to engage the broader Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex via community service.
MA or MS in Criminology, Sociology, or related social science field
PhD in Criminology, Sociology, or related social science field
In-class teaching experience in a college/university setting
Experience teaching online, as well as service-learning courses
Expertise in at least one topical area and research publications focused on African Americans
Experience working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams
Evidence of a commitment to community service and leadership
