Applications are being sought for a Sales Executive-in-Residence in the WKU Gordon Ford College of Business Marketing Department. This position will a have a start date in August 2020. The successful candidate will contribute to the university's mission through teaching, mentoring students in professional and career preparation, conducting service requirements for the department, and serving as liaison with professional contacts on behalf of the department. There is opportunity for promotion with this position.
WKU is one of a handful of schools in the United States with a Center for Professional Selling, and it is expected that the chosen candidate for this position will help to greatly enhance the Center's mission both in the classroom and with corporate partners.
The Gordon Ford College of Business is AACSB accredited in both business and accounting and currently offers undergraduate majors in 8 areas including Marketing. The marketing major has concentrations in sales, strategy or social media. There are also several minors within the College including Sales. Graduate programs include a Master of Arts in Economics, Master's in Accountancy, and a comprehensive MBA. The Marketing Department consists of nine full-time faculty members.
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on administrative discretion and institutional needs.
Teach four undergraduate courses in sales or marketing per semester to include our entry level sales course, sales management, and our advanced sales course. A typical semester would likely include all 3 courses.
Assist with student activities and recruitment to include leading WKU students in 1 or 2 fall sales competitions held nationally at other sales programs.
Candidate must be willing to assist the sales program in recruiting students, recruiting corporations, and fostering in class corporate participation in all sales classes
Candidate must be willing to travel occasionally for sales center events, sales competitions, and conferences to include University Sales Center Alliance meetings
Candidate will work in conjunction with existing Sales Center Director and Sales Center executive-in-residence to enhance sales program goals.
Departmental, College, University, and Professional Service are required.
Prior university-level teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness is a plus but is not required. Applicants should mention any corporate training they've helped conduct as an instructor as a form of "teaching."
Candidate must have a Master's of Business Administration (MBA), or master's degree in closely-related field to business and sales
Candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years experience working in a sales role. This experience must be specifically in sales (not just business-related experience).
