This is an exciting opportunity for a distinguished leader and scholar to strategically guide the College amidst the changing backdrop of higher education and the growing vibrancy and diversity of the St. Louis region.
The successful candidate will promote and facilitate student success, including for non-traditional and first-generation college students; student enrollment and retention; AACSB-accredited academic programming; research/scholarship; and community engagement. The Dean must understand the increasing complexities of business education and higher education more broadly, and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all levels of a college setting. Further, the Dean will cultivate and lead expanding opportunities and demands of serving the university's diverse community and business partners.
Under the leadership of Chancellor Kristin Sobolik and in the midst of implementing a five-year strategic plan, the University of Missouri - St. Louis is solidifying its commitment to the five Missouri compacts for excellence in the 21st century: Student Success, Research and Creative Works, Community Engagement and Economic Development, Inclusive Excellence, and Planning, Operations and Stewardship. The College of Business Administration consists of 6 departments and has approximately 1,775 undergraduate students, 450 graduate students, 116 full and part-time faculty, and 30 full and part-time staff. With its AACSB dual accreditation for its business and accounting programs, the College offers 12 baccalaureate degree programs, 21 graduate programs (including at the doctoral level), and several certificate programs. Many of these programs are prominently ranked at the national level. (Fall 2019 census)
Reporting directly to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Marie Mora, the Dean will work from these foundations and serve as the chief academic officer for the College, providing vision and leadership for its planning and operations. The Dean will foster and expand our campus engagement with core communities and diverse constituents, as well as develop and execute strategies to ensure that the College's educational and inclusive excellence, research/scholarship, and the national reputation of its academic and applied programs will continue to strengthen.
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications.
A terminal degree and a proven record of success in teaching, research/scholarship and service commensurate with the appointment as a tenured faculty member at the rank of Professor in one of the College's disciplines.
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all levels of a college setting.
Impactful leadership experience in higher education with progressive levels of responsibility and an understanding of the difference between leadership and management.
A willingness to promote collaboration across diverse constituencies on campus and in the community.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated commitment to promoting shared governance and transparency.
Meaningful experience in promoting and facilitating student access and success, student enrollment and retention, academic programming, research/scholarship, and community engagement.
Evidence of collaborative and strategic decision-making that forms and expands our student-centered mission and support for research.
An understanding of the increasing complexities of business education and higher education more broadly.
Experience with AACSB policies, processes, and guidelines.
Experience in working with complex budgets.
Preferred qualifications/experience include the following.
Developing and implementing innovative programs or initiatives to enhance student access and success, including for adult learners and first generation college students.
Developing and implementing diverse and inclusive learning and working environments.
Experience in strategic planning and implementation.
Hiring and supervision of faculty and staff, and providing opportunities for professional development.
Curriculum/program development and assessment.
Evidence of leadership in productive community partnerships that reflect an understanding of the role that metropolitan, land-grant universities and public education play in a democracy.
An enthusiasm for external resource generation from a variety of sources, including private donors, industry and other community partners, foundations, government agencies, and alumni.
