The Manager, Academic Advising is responsible for providing academic services to the center, faculty and students and managing the administrative aspects of the education mission of the center. The Manager, Academic Advising will advise students at Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) on academic programs, policies and procedures, transfer credits, students on probation, and will make recommendations when appropriate. This position plays a strategic role by planning the student experience; resolving student issues; planning and coordinating activities associated with orientation, capstones, co-curricular activities, and other student related events. This position will identify program and classroom needs, maintain master schedules and plans and align resources for class delivery. The Manager, Academic Advising is also responsible for communicating CUSP news and updates in a timely and effective manner, coordinating events and developing and monitoring budgets. The Manager, Academic Advising will build and maintain positive working relationships with CUSPs teaching staff, registrar, financial aid office, facilities and other NYU student related support services. Supervise student workers.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience: 3+ years Experience in student services, or equivalent education and experience
Preferred Experience: Experience in University academic services and student services
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Highly energetic, exceptionally detail-oriented team player; ability to manage complex logistics, shifting priorities, and tight deadlines; demonstrated history of high-quality program delivery; excellent interpersonal skills; superior service orientation; good judgment, diplomacy, and the ability to work effectively with minimal oversight; a strong command of Microsoft Office programs with proficiency in Excel and social media, and the ability to quickly learn new technology. Incumbent should be well-versed in event planning and/or program management and adept at managing and troubleshooting multiple projects in changing environments. Flexible schedule necessary long hours may be expected during peak course delivery times.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Experience working with international and domestics graduate students; experience working in collaborative environment of industry, government, and academic stakeholders. Must be well versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data in NYU systems and be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards.
