The Political Studies program at Bard College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Political Theory at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin Fall 2020. The search is open to all areas of specialization within Political Theory, though we are seeking candidates whose teaching and research will complement rather than replicate the program's current strengths in Arendtian and American political thought.
Applicants should be able to teach courses in canonical traditions of Political Theory, but we especially welcome applications from candidates who can bring critical approaches to the canon, focusing on race, gender and/or non- Western political thought. A candidate who is able to speak across the subfields of Political Science and to the wider social science and humanities communities at the College is especially welcome. Our program's concern with issues of social justice leads us to invest in recruiting colleagues who in their scholarship, teaching and service demonstrate experience with, knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of culturally diverse populations and who are committed to working with students holding a range of worldviews.
The successful candidate will be expected to have completed all the requirements for the doctoral degree by August 2020.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a sample of written work, a teaching portfolio, sample syllabi, student evaluations, and three letters of recommendation through Interfolio.com.
