Position Description: Friends Academy seeks an experienced AP US History teacher who is excited about teaching high school students to engage in our core educational practices. We are searching for someone with excellent oral and communication skills who thrives in a vibrant educational environment, embraces change, and has deep interest in our Quaker mission and educational philosophy. The position is a full time fall semester leave replacement and the primary responsibility is teaching three sections of AP US History, with an additional seminar course in International Relations. The candidate will also have the potential to serve as an advisor to a small group of students. The position would commence August 24th, 2020.
Qualifications: We are looking for bright, energetic and creative candidates who are current with best practices in Social Studies Education with a focus on 21st-century learning skills. An undergraduate degree in History or in a Humanities field is required, and a graduate degree in either education or in a relevant discipline is welcome. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in online and project-based teaching and learning. Successful high school teaching experience of at least three to five years is desired. Experience with independent schools is welcomed and experience teaching students of high school ages is also important. A successful candidate must have strong organizational, time management and technology skills. We are looking for a candidate who is student-centered and who is also excited to work collaboratively with students and colleagues and the larger community.
