Directly supports the Department Chair and Director of Administration and Operations; coordinates work of departmental committees; serves as resource to the chair on university and FAS-wide academic administration policies relating to searches and curriculum planning; attends Sociology faculty meetings and prepares minutes; organizes faculty teaching preferences for curriculum planning/course catalog.
Chair Support: Schedule meetings; draft communication; create draft faculty committee assignments; advise chair on handbook rules, processes, and procedures and University and FAS-wide administration policies and procedures; work with chair to prepare for interim and full visiting committee, including scheduling relevant dept. affiliates to meet with committee, preparing materials for department chair, preparing materials for the committee itself.
Faculty Searches and Reviews: Coordinate and support work of search, review, and tenure-track faculty mentoring committees; advise committee chairs on procedures and policies; set timeline for committee work; attend and participate in committee meetings; devise methods of ranking candidates; arrange candidate visits (travel, accommodations, interview scheduling, job talk arrangements), draft reports and portions of case statements, compile citation counts, summary teaching chart, and other materials for dossiers; follow up with assistant dean and chair regarding offer/review letters.
Faculty: Manage process for new and visiting faculty (from initial offer until arrival); process title changes for current faculty; draft offer letters; work with assistant dean of social science on procedures for new and existing appointments, faculty leaves, purchases for affiliated faculty appointments; advertise and manage searches for Harvard College Fellow and other lecturer appointments; manage monthly faculty payroll and H1B, Green Card applications;
Visiting Scholars: Determine eligibility for position type, prepare letters of invitation from the chair; with HIO, facilitate visa process (enter/review information in the ISD system); process appointments; send information on
5+ years of experience. Education beyond high school may count toward experience
Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
Experience with Harvard policies, procedures, and systems preferred but not required.
