Working/Functional TitleAst Inst/Inst/Ast Prof - Fixed Term Position SummaryThe Department of Political Science at Michigan State University invites applications for a pool of qualified fixed-term Assistant Professors/instructors to teach one or more undergraduate or graduate-level courses. These positions could be part-time or full time, and vary by semester, depending on the needs of the Department. It is possible that no positions are needed in some semesters. Appointments may be for the academic year or the semester, depending on scheduling needs, and may be renewed based on funding, scheduling need and performance. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and degree status. Applicants in this pool are reviewed when the Department has an immediate need to fill a vacancy as needed within two years and positions would begin as early as August 16, 2020. Responsibilities include teaching courses in any of the following areas:
Successful candidates will come from a discipline in political science, law, public administration or policy, or related areas. Required DegreeDoctorate Minimum RequirementsThe positions require a master’s degree for the rank of Instructor or Ph.D. (or J.D.) for the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants should demonstrate commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. The names and contact information of two to three confidential references that can speak to teaching expertise, evidence of teaching approach and effectiveness, must be provided as part of the application process. These references will be contacted only when a specific candidate is considered. Special InstructionsApplicants should supply a statement discussing how their research and teaching interests align with the Department's research mission and its teaching needs in Political Science and Integrative Social Sciences, identifying at least four potential courses.
