The Department of Theatre and Dance at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Applied Theatre / Community-Based Theatre at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall semester 2021.        

The ideal candidate is a committed educator with successful theatre leadership experience in a team-oriented environment, and a strong record of engaging with communities via devised work, Theatre of the Oppressed, Playback Theatre, etc. We are looking for an innovative and interdisciplinary teacher/artist with experience in the study and practice of Applied Theatre, who will diversify our course offerings, implement and develop a curriculum which highly values theatre as a platform for social change, and who foregrounds issues of gender, race, and class in their own creative and/or research work. This new faculty member will offer effective mentorship and create community-based connections and pathways for our students. Experience in stage, lighting, and/or costume design desired, but not required. Both M.F.A.s and Ph.D.s with the appropriate background and experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Some of this position’s duties will include:

• Teaching classes at all levels in: Performance and history/literature/theory. The typical load is 6 (3/3) courses per year.
• Directing at least one production a year.
• Curriculum design and implementation.
• Supervising and directing senior capstones, advising students, conducting auditions.
• Actively recruiting a diverse cohort of majors.
• Enhancing inclusivity pedagogies in the classroom and program generally.
• Maintaining a productive, ongoing research/performance program, and contributing actively to the continued growth of the department and the university. 
• Engaging with theatre scholars and professionals, organizing workshops and invited lectures.  
• Collaborating with other departments and programs.

Qualifications

• M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Theatre. 
• Experience in applied theatre and devised work. 
• Successful teaching experience. 
• A strong record in scholarly and/or creative work.
• Extensive experience in acting and/or directing. 
• Demonstrated success working with a diverse student body, including first-gen, low-income, students of color, and/or students with disabilities.           
• Interest in developing and implementing curricula related to culturally diverse populations.
