University Prep is seeking a talented, engaging and compassionate French Teacher to teach a combination of Middle School and Upper School level courses. Students in our language program continually exercise all four skills of language learning—reading, writing, speaking and listening—and progressively expand their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary through a grades 6-12 curriculum and integrates in-depth exploration of Francophone cultures, literature, and history. Four French teachers collaborate together within a Languages department that also includes Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. Incoming students are placed into the appropriate level (A-C in Middle School and I-VII in Upper School) based on skills and learning needs, and classes include students from multiple grades.

We are looking for an individual who can adapt quickly to changing circumstances, who is comfortable working independently and collaboratively, and who is passionate about teaching middle school and high school-aged children and looks for opportunities to engage with students in other roles in the school community. Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, and on a full-time basis, teaches Middle and Upper School level French courses as needed.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Teaches four sections of French including a combination of Middle School and Upper School level courses
• Provides classroom instruction, management, and assessment
• Collaborates with French teachers to coordinate scope and sequence of the French program
• Determines learning targets for each class based on proficiency levels, with reference to external organizations such as ACTFL
• Serves as advisor to 10-12 students
• Collaborates with colleagues, students, parents and administrators as appropriate
• Actively participates in the life of the school
• Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
• Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies
• Vigorously engages in their own professional development
• Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
• Performs other duties as assigned
