![]() University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF06065 The UCLA Community Engagement and Social Change (CESC) Program unit seeks a lecturer for Spring 2021 (AY 2020-21) to teach an upper-division undergraduate course in CESC. Students will analyze a selection of documentary films diverse both in genre (advocacy, observational, essayistic, ego document, archival) and subject (war, exploitation, incarceration, ecosystem collapse, revolution and genocide). The films will be discussed in their historical and artistic context, but most of all in the way they are vehicles for community engagement and social change. The students will be challenged to articulate their thoughts on the relationship between art and politics as well as sharpen their way of thinking and looking at the medium of film. UCLA has a diverse student population in one of the more diverse cities in the nation; we particularly seek candidates who have taught similarly diverse students in a major research university.
