Director of Social Work, Division of Student Success and Retention
Kean University
Reporting to the Vice President of Student Success and Retention, the Director of Social Work (Director IV) will oversee the implementation of campus and community services that assist students to persist to graduation and supervise a team of social workers and graduate assistants in assisting Kean University students in obtaining resources that will improve their daily life and student experience. The Director will connect students with campus and community resources that assist with solving social, economic, emotional and behavioral problems; help students cope with problems and solve issues that may be related to food insecurity, housing issues, financial well-being and family crises; and also serve as a resource to Kean faculty and staff by informing the college community of various resources for at-risk students. The Director will provide essential support services to Kean University students and promote individual student success; host events and workshops that promote well-being; and prepare budgets and quarterly reports. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
This is not a remote position and requires physical presence on campus as determined by the Supervisor. It requires working on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic and interacting directly with students following all procedures and protocols set forth in the University’s Restart Plan and any procedures/protocols created through additional correspondence. The employee must have the ability to wear a face covering for the duration of the workday during the COVID pandemic or as determined by university.
Qualifications: MSW or related degree and two or more years of social work experience is required. Candidate must have experience in working with at risk populations, mentoring and/or community stakeholders. Grant writing experience and teaching experience at the college level is preferred. Excellent administrative and organizational skills; excellent data-gathering, management, analysis and reporting skills; supervisory experience; and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Candidate must have outstanding human relations skills and the ability to lead and be a part of a student services team.
