Employment Type: Permanent Faculty Vacancy ID: FAC0003390 Position Summary/Description: As the largest university-based local government training, advisory, and research organization in the United States, the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Government offers up to 200 courses, webinars, and specialized conferences for more than 12,000 public officials each year. For nearly 90 years, the School of Government's mission has been to improve the lives of North Carolinians through nonpartisan, engaged scholarship that helps public officials understand and improve state and local government. This faculty member will work with state and local government officials in North Carolina to research, publish, and teach on social equity, diversity, and inclusion. Examples of this engaged work include leading training sessions for local government employees, advising local governments to strengthen their DEI efforts, and conducting DEI research and publishing for state and local officials. The faculty member will also teach in the School's highly ranked MPA program and contribute scholarship to the academic discipline of public management. The selected candidate is expected to teach one course annually on diversity, equity, and inclusion for the MPA (either on-campus or online). Faculty appointments are year-round (rather than for the nine-month academic year). Education and Experience: Commitment to public service, ability to work effectively with diverse audiences, and a record of, or demonstrated potential for, practically focused and engaged teaching, advising, and scholarship required. Desirable qualities include experience in local or state government, organizational consulting, DEI training with public or private entities, and experience teaching public administration courses.
