Field Coordinator - SSW Office of Field Education - (21000019)
JOB SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, plans, coordinates and oversees the placement of masters-level social work students in field practicum; the recruitment and maintenance of agencies and organizations that provide field placements; and the recruitment and maintenance of field instructors. Teaches one class, carries one full (15 student) liaison load of advanced students, or carries a liaison load and teaches field seminar to approximately 10 foundation students. Reports directly to the Associate Dean of Field Education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Reviews foundation, advanced and advanced-standing field applications, refers and manages placement in appropriate agencies for students in the MSW program using an equity, inclusion and anti-racist lens. 2. Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. 3. Supervises faculty field liaisons and oversees their interactions with, and support of social work students and field instructors in the field. 4. Collaborates with students and faculty field liaisons to resolve student issues in field. 5. Teaches and develops curriculum for one foundation course in the fall; or serves as a faculty field liaison for approximately 15 advanced students, or serves as a faculty field liaison and field seminar instructor for approximately 10 foundation students. 6. Develops curriculum for field seminar. 7. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-oppression concepts and issues, especially as they apply to agency recruitment, placement and teaching. 8. Recruits and maintains relationships with agencies that (1) demonstrate knowledge of the issues and needs of culturally diverse groups and (2) engage in equitable and inclusive workplace practices in order to expand the OFE's pool of foundation and advanced, clinical field placements that meet CSWE accreditation requirements for a master's program in social work. 9. Recruits a diverse and inclusive pool of field instructors. 10. Becomes familiar with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) competencies in order to determine appropriateness of new field experiences for students. 11. Participates in management of large database to process applications, place students and track student progress. 12. Collaborates with other field coordinators and the training coordinator to provide annual orientations and trainings for students and field instructors within the MSW program. 13. Communicates regularly with other field coordinators and OFE staff on changes to placements, agencies, field instructors and other relevant field-related items. 14. Serves on at least one UMB SSW committee. 15. Provides grant writing and program implementation support to research faculty as needed. 16. Collaborates with the director and assistant director of Field Education on projects related to the field education program as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master's degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program or equivalent accreditation approved by CSWE. 2. A social work license. 3. Minimum five (5) years post-MSW professional practice experience in human service agencies. 4. Knowledge of Maryland and DC-area human services systems and agencies. 5. Experience as a field instructor or as an agency supervisor is highly desirable. 6. Management and supervisory experience is highly desirable.
