Department: SoC National High School Inst Salary/Grade: TMP/01 Debate Institute Resident Assistant National High School Institute (NHSI) Since 1931, the National High School Institute, a nonprofit organization has brought outstanding students to Northwestern University’s Evanston campus for intense educational experiences. Our Film and Video Arts Division is an immersive, hands-on exploration into stage performance and production. A rigorous combination of classes and rehearsals provides students with a challenging and inspiring learning environment every day for 5-7 weeks. Working with professional theatre practitioners from around the country, students receive extraordinary training in a collaborative and supportive environment. Job Summary: This is a 4-6 1/2 week summer position, full-time (day and evening commitment), starting June 26th through August 9th. Position includes room and board. Salary is TBD based on qualifications/experience. This position is for the National High School Institute located in Evanston, Illinois at Northwestern University. Specific Responsibilities: - Full-time support in supervision of students in dormitories
- Enhance the quality of life, socialization, and community experience of attending students;
- Attending to safety and security of the students, and the security of the building and premises creating and administering programs that meet the needs of students on their respective floors;
- Ensuring that residents follow all University safety and housing policies;
- Primary response for emergency situations when on duty; administrative tasks including roll call and check-out/check-in of students;
- Mail pickup and distribution
- Responsible for judging practice and tournament debates; participating in debate-related instruction on an ad-hoc basis in support of Institute teaching faculty.
Miniumum Qualifications: - Ability to relate well to others; A high school degree (or its equivalent); demonstrated commitment to working with students in building a supportive community.
- Experience in a youth-supervisory capacity; participation in policy debate as a competitor or instructor.
