Whitfield School, an innovative educational institution for students in grades 6-12, seeks to welcome a Middle School humanities teacher to a community that emphasizes college prep through character education. Teachers at Whitfield actively engage with—and learn from—colleagues on a daily basis, thrive on the opportunity to co-create an equitable and inclusive environment alongside a diverse student body, and apply research-based best practices in their classrooms day in and day out.
This position is for the 2021-2022 academic year (start date August 1, 2021).
In addition to demonstrating a passion for this work, ideal candidates will:
Have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues.
Have both a depth and breadth of knowledge regarding middle school humanities curriculum—including teaching reading, writing and research.
Have a demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction—especially with 6th and 7th grade students.
Professional expectations include:
Integrate Habits of Mind and Heart, Whitfield’s social-emotional and character education framework, across all school programming and experiences.
Leverage diversity, equity, and inclusion through culturally competent teaching and embracing the diversity of our student body.
Managing a grade-level advisory, which meets several times a week and serves as the foundation of the school’s teacher-student-family relationship.
Technology integration through Whitfield’s learning management system (Blackbaud ON) and industry-leading 1:1 laptop program (Microsoft Surface Pro).
Commitment to students beyond the classroom through athletics or extracurricular activities, school event participation, and before/after school “open door” availability.
Whitfield actively seeks to forward the equity and diversity of our community in our admissions, programming, policies, and hiring. We do not discriminate on the basis of race or color, religion, age, nationality, ethnicity, economic background, disability status, protected veteran status, sex, gender identity or expression, or sexual orientation.
