The Overlake School (TOS) is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a 75-acre campus in Redmond, Washington. The school serves 530 students in grades 5-12. Upper School Social Studies Full Time – beginning August 2021 Interested candidates are invited to apply online - Current Openings Description: TOS, an independent, non-profit, NWAIS accredited 5th-12th grade school, seeks an Upper School Social Studies/History teacher for the 2021-22 school year. The Overlake School's strategic vision is to develop its capacity to have equity and inclusion at the institution's heart in its teaching and learning. We are seeking educators who can carry cultural competence and teach for equity and justice as central to their instruction. Diversity Strategic Plan (DSP) Statement: TOS's new Diversity Strategic Plan builds on Inclusion and Equity values, where students gain cultural competency and anti-racism skills they will carry as graduates. Over the next five years, there are Five Goals which we will work towards. The successful candidate will be an integral part of this process and the department. Responsibilities: The full-time Upper School Social Studies teacher will be responsible for three world history classes and will also be asked to teach one section of AP US Government. Suppose the candidate has not had any experience teaching this AP Course. In that case, there will be a summer AP session that we will ask the hired teacher to participate in either locally or, if more convenient for the teacher's timeline near their home area before coming to TOS. Once the teacher starts the school year, they will be required to participate in other school activities that include club facilitator, Experiential Education or Outdoor program experience as a chaperone, Project Week leader, or co-facilitator. They will lead an advisory (homeroom) grouping after year one. They will also be required to collaborate with their peers to prepare for classes and contribute to the overall process of teaching and their courses.
