Mahurin Honors College is accepting applications to build a pool of qualified instructors for any current or future part-time assignments within the Citizen and Self seminar each semester. In a typical year, the MHC needs part-time instructors for 1-2 sections each semester.

The MHC provides its 1,200 students the experience of a prestigious, highly selective liberal arts college within the context of a robust public comprehensive university. The MHC emphasizes writing, research, interdisciplinary, and international learning, and has an excellent record of placing alumni in top graduate/professional programs.  It also has a strong record of success in nationally competitive scholarships. The Citizen and Self seminar emphasize building theoretical knowledge and practical skills for effective, engaged citizenship within our communities, so our alumni are better prepared to address current and future challenges. The seminar's format facilitates students working in research teams to develop reports that culminate in a public deliberation. The successful candidate must have the skills and experience to teach a course that emphasizes:

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Exploration of the role of citizen as a co-creator of public goods
• Theoretical knowledge and practical skills that prepare students to work effectively in their communities, social groups, and professional societies to strengthen the broader society.
• Developing strong writing and research skills, with a focus on knowledge creation,
• Community partnerships and collaborative problem-solving, and
• Engagement with methodologies and approaches to public scholarship and community-based research.

Minimal academic qualifications for this position are a master's degree or at least 18 hours of relevant graduate coursework. Disciplinary background is open, but candidates should demonstrate a history of, and commitment to, interdisciplinary engagement with a specific interest in civic studies and public scholarship.
