The Program Manager provides program leadership for the Undergraduate Data Science Program. Responsibilities include creating, implementing, and managing operational procedures for the Program, as well as the management of Program communication and event strategies. The Program Manager will also manage program courses, resources, repositories, and the program website. Administrative duties and tasks are also performed by this position. The Program Manager will report directly to the Director of the Undergraduate Data Science Program.

Data science is an emerging interdisciplinary field whose goal is to extract knowledge and enable discovery from complex data using a fusion of computation, mathematics, statistics, and machine learning and to effectively communicate data-driven insights. The Undergraduate Data Science Program hosts a unique trans-institutional, interdisciplinary undergraduate Data Science Minor shared by all four undergraduate colleges at Vanderbilt (A&S, Blair, Engineering, Peabody).

Duties and Responsibilities

Student Oversight, Guidance, Records, Program Management

• Serve as the first point of contact for (current and prospective) undergraduates in the program
• Answer questions about the program
• Collect and analyze data for program evaluation
• Design and implement systems for student oversight, guidance, and records
• Maintain student and alumni records
• Update and revise program documents, surveys, forms, and web sites related to program

Course Management

• Maintain and update courses in university systems, assuring continuity
• Maintain course schedules and room assignments
• Facilitate student registration in the Program
• Administer course evaluation submissions and compile results
• Provide administrative support to course instructors
• Administration and oversight of graders and teaching assistants

Program Resource and Repository Management

• Manage and update repositories used by classes in the Program (example: Gift repository)
• Manage and update computational resources used by classes in the Program

Program Web Site and Communications

• Develop and manage communications strategy for the Program
• Partner with Vanderbilt Digital Strategies on Program web site design
• Develop and update Program web site content
• Compose and publish news items and event listings
• Compose communications related to the Program
• Curate social media content

Event Planning

• Develop and manage event strategy for the Program
• Organize informational, social, and workshop events for undergraduates
• Partner with the Data Science Institute on shared events
• Partner with other campus resources on events

Administrative Tasks

• Serve as liaison with Data Science Institute, registrar, colleges, and other campus entities
• Process administrative student paperwork and track program requirement compliance
• Communicate critical timelines and important notices to Director, core faculty, and students
• Monitor finances related to the program
• Purchase and expense items related to the program
• Coordinate and process travel requests
• Develop and maintain alumni database
• Manage appointments and payroll for graders and teaching assistants

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is necessary
• A Master's degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
• Quantitative and/or computational degree and/or coursework and/or experience is preferred
• Experience in university education program management is preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary
• Demonstrated ability to execute multiple tasks while working in a fast-paced environment under the pressure of hard deadlines and competing priorities is necessary
• Demonstrated attention to detail, as well as organizational and analytical skills are necessary
• Proficiency in SkyVU, Oracle, Microsoft Office, and Adobe preferred.
• Proficiency web site content software (basic html, WordPress) is preferred
