The Cleveland Institute of Music, whose graduates command the most celebrated and revered stages in the world as soloists, chamber musicians and ensemble members; compose award-winning repertoire; and are sought-after teaching artists, administrators and thought-leaders, is accepting nominations and applications for a new position: Director of Digital Media. The successful candidate must be creatively innovative; intrigued and inspired by the prospect of being a pioneer; and capable of articulating CIM’s vision to current and prospective members of the Institute’s community. They will serve as a mentor to students, an ambassador to the city of Cleveland, and a digital megaphone to the field of classical music. They must see themselves as an in-house journalist charged with conveying the heart and soul of the Institution to the world. The Director of Digital Media will play an essential role in supporting the legendary school’s objectives, charged with reinforcing its stature and fostering a contemporary familiarity with CIM -- all while highlighting its esteemed faculty, artistic standard, and graduate outcomes. To be successful, candidates must possess a combined and unique set of entrepreneurial, pedagogical, and technical skills. A tireless commitment to strategizing internal partnerships and external distribution across traditional media channels must be instinctive, taking a cue from the COPE (Create Once, Publish Everywhere) mantra of public television. The position is open at the start of the 2021-22 Academic Year on or after July 1, 2021. An earlier start date is negotiable. Specific Responsibilities and Duties: The Director of Digital Media is a creative and innovative self-starter who will: - Develop and enhance digital content to ensure that CIM reaches and engages prospective students, loyal donors, and thought-leaders locally, nationally, and internationally on all digital, social media, and livestream and digital broadcast platforms to assure alignment with CIM’s vision to be “the future of classical music.”
- Expand CIM’s successful series of on-line pedagogical intensives, reaching students around the world and featuring CIM faculty. Building on this foundation, assemble from our faculty for and launch a “Virtual Preparatory & Continuing Education branch” that attracts a significant, net-contribution positive, domestic and international “virtual” student base for CIM’s pre-college and adult learning/continuing education.
- Teach courses and seminars on digital media skills for the elite classical artist as part of CIM’s Center for Innovative Musicianship. Equip our students with the important skills a top musician in the 21st century require for career agency, readiness and fluency in the area of digital media.
- Make CIM a hub for teaching digital media fluency to elite classical artists and managers as a professional development/continuing studies role externally in a manner which advances the Institute's DEI efforts in the digital space.
- Curate and communicate stories of mission-driven impact to the broader community, covering CIM programs and capturing the experiences of our students, faculty, guest artists, and patrons to effectively support growth in applications, partnerships, and contributions—all critical to CIM’s strategic plan relative to its brand.
- Build and execute an annual digital content plan that incorporates winning, data-driven strategies for all relevant digital platforms, prioritizing continued engagement of current followers, along with the use of web analytics to drive growth of new followers and potential students and donors.
- Strategize partnership and distribution across CIM’s traditional media channels as well, taking a cue from the COPE (Create Once, Publish Everywhere) mantra of public television, making sure access to content is available across the barriers of racial, economic, geographic, and other lines.
- Manage sponsored content budget.
- Identify and execute digital content partnerships, domestic and international, to enable growth.
- Collaborate with CIM staff, students, faculty, alumni, donors, and thought- leaders to achieve interesting, engaging, and relevant storytelling and content.
- Attend a very wide cross section of CIM auditions, events, recitals, programs and concerts to capture and digitally promote experiences across various media, including the development of featured stories and the interviewing/surveying of participants for the purposes of program impact and efficacy.
- Create deliverables that help convey the heart and soul of what CIM represents in a way that resonates with students/prospective students and CIM stakeholders alike.
- Maintain, advocate for, and is the resident subject matter expert in operating CIM’s current and future digital media technology, including the Virtual Learning Studios.
- Build a team of student work study/volunteers capable of expanding CIM’s digital media capabilities and profile.
