THE POSITION The Hawken Humanities department is looking for an enthusiastic educator and teacher leader to join the academic team. The Hawken Humanities curriculum explores a wide array of subjects, including (but not limited to) world cultures and civilizations, influential literature, U.S. history, and conflicts facing modern society. The department emphasizes the importance of diverse perspectives, encourages inquiry, and prioritizes the development of high quality argumentation and writing skills.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced teacher leader in the Humanities and adept at facilitating project and discussion based learning in the Humanities classroom. This teacher leader will be passionate about leading a department of teachers in developing a scope and sequence of key content knowledge and skills that will ensure students are provided the most engaging learning opportunities in the Humanities. This teacher will also be excited to lead the team’s effort to co-design interdisciplinary learning opportunities with students and colleagues. We are looking for a team member who has experience in designing curriculum that is centered around the student experience and that elevates student voice both in the design process and in the classroom.
