Primary Duties and responsibilities

Administration & Board:

• Provide strategic leadership in the areas of inclusivity, equity, and community building to support Burke’s mission and strategic plan
• Work with the school’s administrative team on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice across all school programs and departments
• Serve as a member of the Board of Trustees Equity and Inclusion Committee
• Partner with the administrative team to retain, recruit, and hire faculty of diverse backgrounds
• Partner with the Admissions Office and Division Directors to retain, recruit, and welcome  students from diverse backgrounds
• Lead and administer the school’s efforts to grow its network of educational, civic and business partnerships
• Supervise and partner with the Associate Director of Inclusivity and Community Building

Faculty & Staff:

• Work with faculty and the school’s academic administrative team to further develop and strengthen the school’s culturally responsive curriculum with a focus on equity, inclusion, and social justice
• Provide support, coaching, and training to faculty to help support culturally competent teaching and to address identified faculty needs
• Act as a resource for faculty and staff in providing academic, emotional and social support for students and families of diverse backgrounds
• Create lesson plans and units that foster gender inclusive classrooms
• Coordinate in-service workshops and external professional development opportunities to enhance faculty, staff and trustee knowledge of inclusion and diversity practices
• Lead the Faulty/Staff Inclusivity and Community Building Committee

Students & Families:

• Act as leader and resource for the Parent Association Inclusivity and Community Building Committee
• Serve as administrative contact for the Parents Association Parent Education Committee, to ensure speakers are diverse and inclusive 
• Lead and facilitate Community Dialogues throughout the year
• Teach E Block an Upper School course that explores identity, racial injustices, current events, and activism
• Be the liaison to students and families on financial assistance, including facilitating purchasing of uniforms and supplies for students 
• Facilitate and lead service learning activities across both divisions in collaboration with Burke’s Community Connections chairs 
• Works with members of the Lower and Upper School administrative teams to coordinate assemblies for both divisions, as well as all school assemblies
• Co-facilitate Youth Voice (student government) work
• Work with the Business Office to implement the transportation program

Desired Professional Skills & Experience

• Proven collaborator with a history of working closely with a variety of constituencies
• Experience in conflict resolution and ability to manage discomfort and tension that may arise when addressing issues around equity and inclusion 
• Ability to research, identify and implement best practices around diversity, equity and inclusion
• Experience facilitating and leading discussions with small and large groups of people
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience as a classroom teacher and/or advisor
• Experience coaching and/or leading faculty professional development
• Understanding and appreciation of the social-emotional development of girls
• Knowledge of the Understanding By Design (UbD) framework
• Bachelors Degree (Required)
