JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Humanities Instructor Reports to: Dean of Faculty Status: Full-time (100% FTE) Exempt Position begins: July 1, 2021 Located in the Presidio of San Francisco, The Bay School of San Francisco is a leader in innovative, student-centered secondary education, providing its students with a challenging, interdisciplinary program and a collaborative, supportive community. Note: In a COVID impacted school year, teachers should expect the possibility of teaching in a variety of modes, including distance learning, hybrid learning, and/or in person. POSITION: Humanities Instructor with expertise and experience in world history (Africa, Asia, Middle East or Latin America preferred) but with ability to teach introductory humanities courses (literature, history, art, religion) and to develop students’ skills in critical thinking, analytical writing and rhetoric, research and creative writing. Ability and interest in teaching economics is a plus. The Bay School employs a pedagogical approach that incorporates inquiry-based practices and real-world applications. Block periods allow students to delve deeply into rich problem/inquiry-based learning across all courses. We are looking for an experienced humanities teacher who has a strong commitment to innovative curricular design, progressive pedagogy and social justice--all in service of student learning and growth. All teaching staffulty have additional responsibilities to the students and school, including but not limited to serving as an advisor, attending Morning Meetings, monitoring a “flex” (study hall) once per week.
