The Girls' Middle School
Imagine a school where each day is alive with learning, creativity, and a spirit of adventure. Where the transition from childhood to young adult is celebrated and growing minds flourish. Is this a place where your teaching expertise will thrive? If yes, we want you! The Girls’ Middle School is committed to progressive education and innovative programming, creating an environment designed to embrace differences in its students. GMS educates girls during a pivotal time in their lives. Our project-based curriculum encourages creativity, problem-solving, and independent thought. Attention to our students’ emotional and social growth develops self-knowledge and confidence and instills values of leadership, social awareness, teamwork, compassion and a true love of lifelong learning. The Girls' Middle School enables our young women to spread their wings, take risks, and be self-reliant. Learn more about GMS: www.girlsms.org GMS celebrates different perspectives coming together in community. We are committed to broadening the diversity, in all dimensions, of our faculty and staff. Teaching at GMS The management team at GMS recognizes that our faculty are the people with the vision, inspiration and courage to lead our students through their middle school experience. It is the interactions with compassionate, caring teachers that inspire young minds to reach beyond what they thought possible and expand their world. These are the people we want to join us for the 2021 – 2022 school year. We request candidates who are joyful, inclusive, and respectful of people, ideas, facts, and themselves. Our teachers are passionate, mission-driven, highly collaborative and believe in the value of a diverse and equitable school environment. GMS provides you autonomy in creating curriculum and learning experiences; opportunities to implement multi-faceted, interdisciplinary projects; encouragement and resources to continue your professional development. Humanities at GMS Humanities at GMS integrates Language Arts with Social Studies, an approach that develops in students an awareness of themselves, their community, and the world. The multicultural curriculum prepares students to become powerful communicators, creative as well as critical thinkers, and positive contributors to a just and pluralistic society. The Humanities Department nurtures and supports creativity, growth, and expression, and students develop the ability to speak and write thoughtfully and fluently. In 6th grade we develop a deep sense of community through investigating diverse perspectives in texts, developing thoughtful questions, and connecting the human experience through writing. The 7th grade course uses history and literature as lenses to examine the human experience, focusing on American history and literature to gain an understanding of our individual, political, and social rights as citizens. In 8th grade we take a global view, with themes of identity and social justice leading the curriculum. What we look for in a Humanities Teacher:
If you are looking for an opportunity to make a difference; join a fantastic, kind, inclusive team; and wake up each day fulfilled by your mission, please submit a resume and letter of interest to: Ms. Laura Reeve, Assistant Head of School at employment@girlsms.org.
