The teaching faculty are the strength of community of West Nottingham Academy, striving to provide the support, care, and attention necessary to meet the students where they are in order to develop understanding and mastery across the curriculum. The teaching faculty plan an important role in the life of the school and are in almost constant collaboration with other staff members, administrators, parents, students and the Head of School. All faculty work closely with the Academic Dean and their Department Chairs to maintain congruency between the school’s mission and each department’scurriculum.
Teach 5 courses in the History department; potential 1 of these may be in the English department
Employ creative curriculum strategies to enhance student interest in history
Employ a variety of classroom techniques to deliver information including student-centered project-based learning
Incorporate a focus on contemporary relevance in historical instruction
Serve as an advisor up to 5 students
Attend departmental and faculty meetings, as well as all school events
Coach/Assist 2 seasons of after school sports and/or activities
Duty Team Responsibilities – 1 weekend every 4 to 5 weekends, and 1 night during the school week.
Bachelor’s degree in Education/History/English or related field required, Masters preferred
At least three years of teaching experience in upper level History, English, and Ethics), preferred
Boarding School experience preferred
Former high school/college athlete preferred
Understanding of and desire to work with students
Proven ability to communicate with students, parents and colleagues to build community and support studentlearning
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and to work independently
Interest in and aptitude for building new programs/classes/learning experiences
A high degree of cultural competency

Established in 1744, West Nottingham Academy is the oldest boarding school in the United States. We are a 9-12 grade coeducational boarding and day school located in Maryland near the picturesque Chesapeake Bay, an hour’s drive from either Philadelphia or Baltimore. Our mission is to prepare students for the challenges of college and life through a curriculum grounded in the liberal arts and sciences, and a commitment to the intellectual, spiritual and social growth of each student. Last year, 85 students were enrolled, including 25% from overseas.
