Instructional Designer - John Chambers College of Business and Economics 16503 Description The Department of Finance within the John Chambers College of Business and Economics (B&E) at West Virginia University is seeking applications for an Instructional Designer. This position will work with faculty and other subject matter experts to develop, design, and implement multimodal courses. This position combines instructional design, instructional technology, and project management to influence the transformation of content delivery online and in the classroom in a rapidly changing educational environment. With the building of Reynolds Hall, opening in 2022, this position will also partner with others on our team to support experiential instructional strategies through facilities like the Trading Room, Social Media Lab, Cyber-Security Lab, Hospitality Innovation and Tourism (HIT) Lab, Data Analytics Lab, Experiential Learning Pavilion, Supply Chain Management Lab, Ideation Hub and more. In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will: - Design engaging and effective instructional modules.
- Assist in the development of course materials that are functional, intuitive, informative, and consistent with sound instructional design principles.
- Develop and provide recommendations for interface design, sequencing of instruction, use of assessments, and design of course materials and activities.
- Determine instructional effectiveness of course modules that are developed.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of sound practices to facilitate communications among instructors and students.
- Continually explore new technologies for potential application to instructional requirements and problems.
- Provide support to B&E faculty for the WVU learning management system eCampus.
- Provide backup support for the B&E IT Assistant Director for Instructional Services.
- Serve as project manager for major B&E IT projects.
- Assist Assistant Directors and other managers with coordination of various prioritized projects and the efficient running of projects in the Information Technology office.
- Effectively function in a collaborative team environment with members of the Information Technology team.
- Work closely with other team members to identify interdependencies across multiple projects, including the critical path, shared resources and assets to ensure project milestones are met within established timelines.
Qualifications - Master's degree in instructional design or a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's degree in graphic and/or web design (preferred).
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the following:
- Web-based instructional material design, development, and deployment
- Use of course management tools (preferably BlackBoard and eCampus products)
- Graphic and web design
- Leading instructional material development tasks
- Matching eLearning technologies to instructional goals
- A minimum of six (6) months of experience in the following:
- Designing and presenting workshops
- Team leadership experience or demonstrated skills
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
- Commitment to customer service and team-oriented management
- Comprehensive knowledge of current learning and instructional theories and principles applicable to eLearning.
- High level of expertise with tools that facilitate the design of instructional materials (such as storyboards, flow charts, assessments, etc.).
- Proficiency with instructional development tools such as CSS, HTML & HTML editors, productivity software (such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases & presentation tools), multi-media (such as graphics, animation, audio, & video) development software, etc.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies applicable to teaching and eLearning.
