The Pennington School is seeking a highly engaging and passionate Middle School teacher, for our Grade 7 U.S. History and Government course and a Grade 8 English course, to begin in August 2021. Candidates should have a record of proven effective teaching in the humanities. Candidates should also possess the developmental understanding of and appreciation for working with students in this age group (Grades 6 through 8). The ideal candidate will embrace a student-centered approach to learning, and guide students to work toward personal and collective goals in skills, habits of mind, and understanding. Class sizes typically range from ten to sixteen students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach Grade 7 U.S. History and Government
Teach Grade 8 English
Advisor role for a small group of students
Teach an elective course each of three trimesters
Assist students during study halls
Lead at least two clubs and/or athletic endeavors
Demonstrate warmth, respect, humor, teamwork, and industry in interactions with students and colleagues
This position is full-time, ten (10) months per year, exempt from overtime, and eligible for all benefits afforded to full-time Pennington School employees.

Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience teaching at the middle-school level
Strong desire and ability to work with middle-school students and a range of learning styles
Experience/willingness to lead at least two extracurricular and/or athletic endeavors
Knowledge of pedagogical strategies for teaching middle-school students
Ability to implement curriculum to build a high level of proficiency for students
Ability to use technology in highly effective ways to enhance learning
Ability to create a safe environment in which students can take risks and be and become themselves
Create personalized and highly engaging learning experiences that have lasting impact
