The Dean of the College of Behavioral & Social Sciences (CBSS) is a visionary leader for the university’s psychology, social work, and counseling programs, faculty, and students across the Southeastern University network of campuses and maintains oversight of disciplinary partnerships, initiatives, and projects. The Dean of CBSS prioritizes excellence in program design across multiple deliveries at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Dean of CBSS is committed to stewarding the history of Southeastern University’s programs while remaining focused on continuous innovation and growth. The Dean of the CBSS holds an administrative staff position with faculty rank consistent with the faculty handbook rank classification.
DUTIES AND JOB-RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES

Faculty Leadership – Leads faculty, staff, and adjuncts of CBSS to collaboratively achieve the university’s strategic plan for program development and college growth. Mentors and develops faculty and staff on the university’s cultural norms, innovative mindsets, and excellence in their field of study. Supervises department chairs, program directors, faculty, staff, and adjuncts on the functions of academic program delivery including relevant general education courses, major and minor curricula, and graduate and doctoral programs online and on campus.
Strategic Planning -- contributes to university strategic planning on CBSS programs, policies, and faculty development. Works collaboratively with institutional leaders to achieve strategic plan objectives. Assist Office of Advancement on strategic projects related to the College. Collaborate with the Office of Enrollment and Marketing on strategies to ensure program offering viability and marketability.
Thought Leadership -- contributes to thought leadership within Christian education communities. Collaborates with the president’s office on media and thought leadership strategy related to education and related areas.
Ensures the efficiency of course scheduling, faculty load, release time, and measures associated with cost of instruction in collaboration with the Office of the Provost.
Chairs or serves on standing committees, as applicable, including College committees, the Deans Committee and elsewhere as called upon as a representative of College.
Oversees the maintenance of professional accreditation of College programs, prepares the annual budget, monitors expenditures, and plays an integral role in student recruitment, retention and program growth.
Produces (with the assistance of Department Chairs) periodic reports and an annual summary documenting effectiveness of the major academic programs within the College of Behavioral & Social Sciences.
Onboards new faculty and adjuncts with attention to SEU community and cultural values. Develops recruitment strategies for faculty and adjuncts. Evaluates prospective candidates.
Teaches courses as assigned by the Provost.
Assumes other duties as assigned by the Provost.
Education – An earned doctorate in psychology, social work, counseling psychology, or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Record of educational excellence as demonstrated in performance evaluations, scholarship record, and letters of recommendation.
Leadership – Demonstrated strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills in an academic setting.
Project Management – Project and team management skills, with emphasis on leading academic projects.
Collaboration – Ability to work with faculty and staff with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
Multi-student Mindset and Nontraditional Learning Theory – Knowledge of contemporary and emerging learning theories, instructional theories, practices, and their applications in nontraditional education.
Instructional Design & Technology – Ability to develop and present instructional materials, assess technology and software programs, and identify advantages and limitations of using various technologies for instructional purposes.
Technology – Knowledge of various software applications strategic to online education, including learning management systems (LMS) and advanced applications in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Access), experience in web development or instructional design standards. Experience with Brightspace LMS preferred.
